Announcement on the transition process to ISO/IEC 17043 :2023

To: Proficiency Testing Providers

The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has issued a new version of the standard ISO/IEC 17043:2023 “Conformity assessment – General requirements for the competence of proficiency testing providers” in May 2023, replacing ISO/IEC 17043:2010.

To facilitate the implementation of the new version ISO/IEC 17043:2023, the Bureau of Accreditation (BoA) would like to announce the transition plan and accreditation assessment schedule as follows:

• The accreditation of proficiency testing providers according to ISO/IEC 17043:2010 will expire on May 31, 2026.
• From May 2024, BoA is ready to receive and conduct assessments and accreditation for proficiency testing providers based on ISO/IEC 17043:2023, upon request.
• From June 1, 2025, BoA will conduct reassessments, surveillance assessments, and extension assessments only in accordance with ISO/IEC 17043:2023.

BoA encourages all proficiency testing providers to proactively develop transition plans for their management systems to ensure compliance with the requirements of the new standard ISO/IEC 17043:2023.
